This quilt was one of the most tedious quilts I have ever made! The cactus blocks are all done with a cut away needleturn applique technique similar to Hawaiian applique. It took me several years to complete it, after putting it away as a UFO many years. I am so excited to see it in the quilt frame at Sauder Village. My mother will be coming to visit it very soon!

Maggie Grace's Garden at Houston International Quilt Show

It was so exciting to travel to Houston to see my quilt in the Special Exhibit "Primitive/Folk Art Quilts" sponsored by Primitive Quilts and Projects Magazine. This is Di Ford's design of small 3/4" hexis and beautiful appliqued baskets exploding with red berries! I envisioned my quilt to be a Christmas Garden quilt of reds, greens, and creams! It is completely hand done! I hand basted each hexi and then laced them together using Metler silk finish thread. The borders consisted of needleturn baskets, vines, leaves, and berries. The special touch was when I added a bird to the center of two of the rosettes! I hand quilted all the hexis and applique in the ditch and radiating lines in the border. The scalloped edge was needleturned using a "cutaway" technique I taught myself. So happy it is done!!

I designed this wall quilt as I was brainstorming ideas for a holiday accent in our dining room. I added dimension to the pomegranates by layering wool and cotton applique. Accented with beautiful glass beads, the centers of the wool applique are cut out to reveal the cotton layer underneath. Sauder Village is located in Archbold, Ohio.

The quilt show was absolutely beautiful! I was so happy to win a "Blue Ribbon" for all my hand stitching! I had always wanted to make an English paper pieced hexagon quilt. When I discovered Di Ford-Hall's Maggie Grace's Garden, I fell in love with her design and began working on my quilt in October 2014. I designed my own color scheme of old-fashioned reds, greens, and creams, even fussy cutting some of the fabrics! It took over a year to make! There are approximately 318 berries! In October 2015, I had the honor of meeting Di Ford-Hall from Australia where she signed a special label for my quilt! I have made many friends who volunteer many hours in preparation of one of the largest quilt shows in the Midwest. I grew up in the small town of Holgate, Ohio, and went to school in Archbold, Ohio, my junior and senior years of high school. It is only a few miles from Sauder Village. I am home now in Elmira, New York, thinking of my hand quilting designs for my entry for next year!

I was thrilled to meet Di Ford-Hall this Fall in Bedford, Pennsylvania. I attended her classes on Broidere Perse which were amazing! I coincidentally had started making this quilt last October which was designed by her! I am now hand quilting it this winter. I wanted to make it into a Christmas Garden quilt, since I work at a wonderful Christmas shop in Elmira, New York, called The Christmas House! I have always wanted to make an old-fashioned red, green, and cream quilt. I believe I counted 318 berries in the appliqued border!
One of my favorite quilts I have made from Blackbird Designs!

The bedrunner is called "Breakfast in Bed" and the quilt is called "Lazy Morning" by Blackbird Designs. Their beautiful quilt book "Weekend" contains both of these and many other beauties! I spent a lot of time collecting all of their beautiful blue and white fabrics made by Moda for Blackbird Designs for this duo and it truly was a delight in the end! I had it machine quilted by a wonderful lady, Cindy, from Sew It Is quilt shop. We spent many hours searching for the perfect machine designs for each section of the quilt top. She did an amazing job! Thank you, Cindy!!

The bedrunner was an applique class I taught in a quilt shop to some very special ladies who were fairly new to applique. I taught them my technique for needleturn applique and they really caught on fast! Two of the ladies won ribbons for their bedrunners! Congratulations Joyce and Sue!!

I have been wanting to share with everyone the quilt I have been hand sewing since last October! It is finally ready for the handquilting! Hoorah!

I wanted to make mine unique, so I decided to make it into a cream, red, and green quilt that reminds me of the antique Christmas quilts of long ago.

The beautiful "French General" fabrics by Moda gave it a special touch!

<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace; font-size: small;">One of my favorite wall quilts is the Gathering Garden Quilt I made in 2013 and which was designed by Kim Diehl. I appliqued the quilt using my needleturn applique method. The fabrics were from Henry Glass designed by Kim Diehl. The colors are rich and vibrant and the rouched flower adds dimension to the center medallion! I have it hanging in our home from a black wrought iron star ring. Looks so nice.

I want to share with you a picture of my Cottage Garden quilt at the Sauder Village 2014 Quilt Show. "No Place Like Home" quilt I made and wanted to put it on my blog as it is one of my first quilts and was designed by Blackbird Designs. It is hanging in our family room and just love the warm colors and all the houses and flowers! The top middle house even has our house number on it. The gate on the center bottom block has The Wick Family embroidered on it. I truly enjoyed making this one!Debbie Whttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05842761533889325016noreply@blogger.com2
